Third-Party Reviews:

"I'd like to put my two cents in regarding the Omnipod system and what I've experienced in the past few months using it...Ok, Here are my findings. Although I have tried to be positive about the Omnipod system, I find that my blood sugars fluctuate way more than previous when I was using a Paradigm pump." Rob - TuDiabetes.com

"With regards to Insulets Omnipod, it is terrific! Both my husband and daughter's HbA1c are coming down. This device offers features that promote and support good control. Here is why. First, there is no tubing. This is one less variable to have to take into consideration when there are high numbers" Linda - DiabetesRevealed.com

"Once I place the pod on my body, its like I can’t even feel anything is there. I can get it wet, exercise without having anything clipped onto me at all times, and I can pretty much place it anywhere. I like wearing it on my upper arms, stomach, and left or right above my waist,  The Omnipod lasts for three days, the wireless handheld PDM or the “Personal Diabetes Manager” is the controller as well as the glucose tester, plus a carb counter too - so I don’t have to carry that, plus my tester, it’s all in one!" Anna - Curemoll.com

"Since putting on the OmniPod some two months ago, I'm completely sold that tubeless pumping is the only way to go. I really enjoy (love?) it! However...a new "device" has entered my life (cue sexy jazz music)." Mark Mansheim - The Jagged Edge

disappointed!!

Love the tubeless and self insertion.

User Review

Pros Tubeless and push button and it inserts.
Cons My son has been on the omnipod for almost a year. We have replaced the pdm once already and countless numbers of pods. We have wasted 4 pods several different times. Yes they replaced them, but that's not the point. When they cost $45 each and you the insulin you waste and the body areas. Was told the new smaller ones would be out within 6 months, but almost a year and still not out. We are not very pleased right now with the pod alarms and waste.

Un reliable product, should be redesigned

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful
Redesign the canula, make the product smaller but most importantly, get to the level of 99% reliability with at least 95% level of confidence. If customers need to keep 3 PODs as a backup at all time, they will go back to shots (that never fail) like I did.

User Review

Pros Nice features, no tubings, simple, innexpensive and supported bu=y my insuance.
Cons This product is not even alfa released. The PODs fail left and right. In hte 1st day that I had it I experienced 2 fatal failures resulting in loss of 300 uu of insulin. When I called customer sevice and was told that some customers experience 20 failures and still stay with the product I made up my mind to return it. It's so unreliable that going back to 4 shots a day seem like a great idea. Stir clear of this product until the company fixes its issues.
Recommendation Buy a product that actually works.

User Review

Pros i've been on the pod for two years now and my a1c went from 14.6 to 6.2..needless to say i love this thing.it's simple, and it works. the only problem is i've developed an alergy to the tape but it's not as bad as a high a1c if you know what i mean...i can live with an alergy
Recommendation i highly recomend this thing,,,it's the closest thing to just being normal i've found

unreliable

eh

User Review

Pros You don't have to take shots, it can go underwater unlike other pumps.
Cons It is completely unreliable- leaking insulin, occlusions, alarms for no apparent reason. I have to keep several in my car, in my purse, in my boyfriend's car and house, at work, etc. You never know when it will fail on you and your backup might fail as well. They don't always replace the ones that don't work, even if it is the product that failed.
Recommendation Recommendation to the company- Redesign of the cannula location, bigger area of sticky tape around cannula, somehow, some way, make it more reliable. (and smaller)
And oh yeah, replace all the pods that don't work!
Recommendation to the buyer- keep a hammer handy for when the pod alarms and using a safety pin doesn't shut it off. It feels pretty good to smash it after all of the frustration you have to put up with.

Omnipod Crash

11 of 12 people found the following review helpful
Until much improvement I wouldn't reccommend this product to anyone! I hate it!

User Review

Pros When I first got my OmniPod in Oct of 08' I really liked it. It was the only pump I even considered because of 'no tubing'. Easy to learn to use.
Cons It went from good to bad to worse in less than a year! What took me 30 years to decide to do (go on a pump) took Omnipod only months to have me decide to throw it out the window! The pods constiantly fail some only lasting several hours, oh yes the company replaces them when you call but not the units of insulin I keep loosing with every failed pod! I pay for that and it's getting expensive with all the failures, as many as 4 in 3 days!!!! Then I upgraded to the newest PDM manager with the color screen an that made it 6 days before it died! They had to send out a new one next day air, which arrived 3 days later!! Oh and did I have a "backup plan" the CSR asked! Then after another attempt at the new one, the next week 3 mornings in a row like clockwork between 6am and 6:30 am the PDM buzzing uncontrolaby told me to call customer service (which are not helpful at all) the pod had to be reset each morning, which of course the meter tells me pod deactivated remove now! More money in insulin down the drain! Untill this company can get it together I will not use this product!
Recommendation Buy a pump that works and you can rely on! This product is very unstable. Pods should be able to be reactivated if this company isn't going to pay for patiants lost insulin due to a faulty product! the pods also need to be slimmer to make them easier to wear under clothing, they are hard to lean on sleeping! Also the carb database is a joke, very incomplete and you should be able to keep a running total of the things you choose and you can't. You need to write them down to add them up for your bolus. And do your BG after you look up the foods or it goes back to the home screen and you need to enter that last bolus showing on the home screen for the delivery of insulin, too many steps.
